Aurora and the Guys

July 11th, 2008, a Friday

You know, I really try to behave myself.  Act like a lady.  Avoid stirring things up too much.  The way I do this is to avoid ranting and raving about certain things, in particular politics (although I admit that during the long primary season I occasionally failed) and celebrity commentary.  But sometimes it just sweeps over you, the outrage, the wrongness of it, and the only way to clean out the toxicity is to spew it right out.  Isn't that kinda what blogs are for?

First the headlines tell you that Matthew McConaghey (I don't know if that is how you spell it but I refuse to actually spend my time researching it) and his girlfriend had a baby.  A boy named Levi.  I am sad that I even know this but it is hard to miss when you read the paper or news sites every day like I do.  By all accounts, he was "over the moon" about it.  Then his mother got into the act.  She hadn't actually seen the baby boy but told the press how cute she had heard he was and can't you just see him trailing after dad carrying a surfboard over his head, shirtless wearing only a bathing suit, or less (hee, hee).  That was bad enough but last night, on a cable news show, it was reported that the proud parents had "sold" the baby's photographs to OK Magazine for 3 million dollars.  His agent was upset because he thought they should have held out for People Magazine and more money.  Oh, and it is important to note (not) that the deal also included little Levi's first Christmas photos.  I have great respect for my readers so will not even offer commentary on this story.  You will do just fine on your own.

Then there is the growing story of A-Rod and Madonna, which could only be growing because someone from the inside is fanning the fire.  From all reports, the fanning is being done by Madonna and perhaps even her soon to be ex-husband who believe that all this publicity will be great for her upcoming concert tour ticket sales.  They want to put away around 300 million for the future of their kids, you know.  Then, and only then, will they be secure, be able to attend college.  Poor A-Rod is reported to be "over the moon" over Madonna while his wife is divorcing him, seemingly oblivious to all the fuss, this just a few short months after the birth of their latest offspring.  It is not clear whether that child's photos have been sold yet and for how much or to what publication.  The wife ran off to Paris to stay with pal, Lenny Kravitz, who is celibate (so he says and why do we have to know about that anyway?) and scoffed at rumors that he is having an affair with Mrs. A-Rod saying the very thought made him want to throw up.   Again, no commentary necessary.

Then there was the article yesterday that said people are having extramarital affairs in record numbers due to the influence of celebrity behavior, widely reported in the media.  Seems people believe their own lives are somewhat boring in comparison.  This makes the previous two paragraphs even more troubling.  I mean, how are regular folks ever going to measure up when only Aunt Betty and Granny Post are interested in the new baby's photos?  And then there is the cost of the paternity test to boot.

You may remember that I went to the ballet recently and rescued Aurora from the gift shop, a plain Jane white bear, a little too tall and kinda awkward.  It's true that I really wanted her dress for myself, which was all wrong for her anyway and too small, and it does look darling on me, but I gave her my nice navy blue corduroy overalls to wear which were a little too big for me anyway.  I then introduced her to my friends Suzuki (big green frog puppet), baby Suns gorilla, and Curious George (who is just visiting and is really owned by the little Dutch Boy but don't tell anyone because he is sensitive about how attached he is to CG).  I sat her down with the guys and let her pal around with them, watching baseball games and Olympic Trials on tv.  Then one day I found her laying on CG's lap, throwing herself at him.  This was upsetting to me because I have always had a crush on CG which is why he was visiting in the first place.  And Aurora is making a play for him right under my nose.  Do you believe that?  After everything I have done for her?  Even though I am upset, I do not have the anger management issues that Christie Brinkley has, so that's a plus.  And you won't be reading about this in the paper or on the internet because my private life is just that.....private!
